For 18s Boys, any player who has represented at a NRL Junior Representative Harold Matthews Team/SG Ball Team in 2026, NSW 17s (2025) or 16s City/Country Team in 2024/25 is eligible to APPLY for an exemption from the Phase 1 Trial. Please note, each application will be considered on merit, with consultation with NRL Clubs – an application will not guarantee an exemption and players must attend the Phase 1 trial should their application be unsuccessful. As a guide, boys playing Harold Matthews/SG Ball should have started more than at least 3/4 of the regular season games to be considered for exemption. Exemption places are capped and are position specific. Players need to be turning 17 or 18s years of age in 2026 to be considered.

Application Forms must be completed by the School or Parents before the Nomination closing date, and must include all details including Contact Name and details for the relevant Junior Representative Coach.
N.B. each application will be considered on merit and in consultation with NRL Clubs…an application for exemption will not guarantee an exemption.
For those who are unsuccessful in their application, they must attend the Phase One Trial in order to be eligible for selection.
As per CIS Operational Guidelines, injury or illness is not considered as a reason for exemption from trials.
