2024 CIS Secondary Athletics Championships

The 2024 CIS Secondary Athletics Championships will be held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre on Tuesday 24 September, 2024. 

Please read through the following information carefully in preparation for the event. 

Venue Entry & Parking

Venue Entry

The 2024 CIS Secondary Athletics Championships will take place in the Competition Arena.

Venue entry for all competitors, officials and spectators will be through the Main Pedestrian Entrance accessed from Edwin Flack Avenue (Gates E and F).

Gates Open: from 7:30am

N.B. Anyone displaying cold and flu like symptoms or feeling unwell should stay home and not attend the event.

Parking

P2 is the closest car park available. A $22.00 flat rate parking fee will be available with validation at the Athletics Centre Reception. 

Championship Map and Assigned Seating

Each Association has been allocated to a section in the Grandstand. Please ensure you are seated in the area designated to your Association only.

Program & Timing

The 2024 CIS Secondary Athletics Championships will take place in the Competition Arena.

Venue Entry: from 7:30am

Track Access: from 7:45am

Clear the Track: 8:20am

Track Events Commence: 8:40am

Field Events Commence: 8:40am (8:15am Seated Throws) 

N.B. There have been changes in the approx. start time for Event 33 and Event 154 since initial publication of program.

Please Note: There will be no paper copies of the Program available at the event. 

N.B. The CIS Secondary Athletics Championships are conducted under IAAF rules unless stipulated. Athletes will not be able to use their own implements for throws. The only allowable equipment will be that provided by SOPAC.

Footwear

- All competitors must wear footwear.

- When spiked shoes are worn the maximum length for all track events and Long Jump is 7mm. For High Jump it is 9mm.

- Only 'Pyramid' or 'Christmas Tree' spikes (also called compression tiered spikes) are to be used on the track for athletic activity. Needle Spike are not permitted. Spikes are only permitted on the Competition Arena and must not be worn in spectator areas or indoors.

- All athletes wearing spiked shoes MUST use starting blocks (supplied by SOPAC only) in laned events up to and including 400m, and the first runner of a relay (Para Athletes excluded).  These athletes will not be permitted to do a crouch start without blocks nor will they be able to do a standing start. This is a decision enforced by SOPAC for track preservation and longevity.

Results

Results will be available to view on the Athletics Sport Page of the CIS Website by Friday 27 September 2024.

Live results will be available to view on Meet Mobile: Track & Field.

Live Streaming

The 2024 CIS Secondary Athletics Championships Track Events will be live streamed.

If you do not give permission for you child to be live streamed, please contact CIS

This can also be indicated on the Online Nomination form which parents complete prior to the event. 

Schools/Associations must notify CIS of any students that they are aware of that are not to be live streamed. 

Merchandise

Want to skip the queue? Pre-order your CIS Merchandise online at Valour.

Order by 5pm on Sunday 22 September to collect on Tuesday at the event from the Valour Stand located in the forecourt. 

Simply select the 'Click and Collect' at 'CIS Secondary Athletics 24th September - SOPAC' option at check out. 

CIS Merchandise will also be available for purchase on the day of the event from Valour Stand. 

The Stand will be located inside the Main Pedestrian Entry in the forecourt of the Competition Arena.

Contactless payment only - no cash.

NSWCIS Secondary Athletics Merit Team

Generally, athletes gaining first, second or third places at the CIS Secondary Athletics Championships will be named in the NSWCIS Secondary Athletics Merit Team.

N.B. This is a Merit Team only. CIS do not submit a team to the NSW All Schools Athletics Championships. Students are not permitted to compete in CIS athletics strip at the NSW All Schools Track and Field Meet.

CIS Secondary Merit Team Registration and Access to Exclusive CIS Representative Uniform

Competitors successful in gaining a position in the CIS Secondary Athletics Merit Team should report to the Madison de Rozario Room following their event to complete registration.

These competitors will also be eligible to purchase items from the Exclusive CIS Representative Uniform Range located in the Madison de Rozario Room. These items are not available for purchase at the Merchandise Stand. The purchase of items is optional. 

CIS Secondary Merit Team List

A final CIS Secondary Merit Team List will be available to view on the Athletics Sport Page of the CIS Website by Friday  27 September 2024.

Merit Team members who do not attend the Team Room to register on the day of the Championships will be contacted directly via email following the Merit Team List announcement. 

N.B. It is important that competitors attending the CIS Championships are registered to the CIS Athletics Portal prior to the event, to ensure they can be contacted. 

Additional Carnival Information

First Aid: First Aid is provided by Complete Body Dynamics.

First Aid will be located in the First Aid Room underneath the Main Grandstand.

Dress: Competitors must compete in their Association Uniform.

Food & Drink: There will be food concessions available at the venue. Competitors are advised to bring their own drinks, snacks and lunch with them as options may be limited. 

Weather: The CIS Secondary Athletics Championships will go ahead regardless of the weather. In adverse conditions students should come prepared with extra clothes for after their event. Some events may be delayed or cancelled at the discretion of the Championship Manager if the nature of the event causes safety concerns due to the weather conditions. 

Personal Marquees: Unfortunately, spectators will be unable to bring and set-up their own personal gazebos. This is a decision enforced by SOPAC to ensure the safety and welfare of all Competitors and Spectators.
